Exporting .ABR File From Photoshop

If you're curious what ABR stands for, it simply means "Photoshop Brush file." What's so great about Photoshop is that it enables you to export tool sub asset files to other softwares but this can depend if those drawing softwares support ABR files.

In this example, I'll show you how you can export a Photoshop ABR file out of the program in the event that you want to use a Photoshop brush tool in other programs (ex. Clip Studio Paint)

Launch Photoshop. The first step is to select the type of brush tool you want to use in your other drawing program. In this case, you'll need to export the brush file (.ABR) out of Photoshop itself. Select the brush tool of your choosing in the tool menu icon (highlighted in red in the image). For this example, I'll be using KYLE Ultimate Pencil Hard Brush. When selecting your brush, make sure your selection is highlighted in a blue box.

Right click on the selected brush tool and you should see a pop-up list of options. Click on "Export Selected Brushes" and it will bring up a pop-up window.

Save as the default name. Make sure the file type says .abr or else this won't work. In my case, I decided to save the file on my desktop temporarily for this example. I don't recommend leaving the file here permanently and instead, save it in a place you feel is most secure or reliably safe. Once you've determined where you want to save the file, hit "Save."

If you see this icon, you have successfully exported the brush tool out of Photoshop. For those of you who aren't too tech savvy, don't worry, the brush is still in Photoshop, you just basically copied and pasted the tool out of the program. This icon will typically list the name of the brush underneath but it could still get confusing when it comes to organizing these files.

If you need help importing the ABR file into Clip Studio Paint, I have a tip for that as well. Click on this link to see those steps.
